AGAPANTHUS BLUE PRINCE
Agapanthus Umbellatus Blue Prince will be a stunning introduction to your garden. One of the more dwarf varieties, rich Summer to Autumn flowers in a spherical ball sit approximately 50cm high above lower lying long leaves. I plant mine in containers so that they can be taken in during the winter and also placed easily in my preferred position in the garden.
Ideal for coastal and cottage gardens as well as formal and informal borders or town gardens/balconies & courtyards. Agapanthus can be frost tender so it is recommended to be safe, that they are placed under cover during poor winter weather unless you live in milder southern parts of the country. Prefer full sun they are happy growing in pots but this will make them more frost tender and they will need to be well drained*.
Flowers throughout the summer but can continue into autumn if dead headed on a regular basis. Reaches a height of 100 – 150cm (40 – 60 inches) depending on fertility of soil and spread of 50cm (20 inches), again depending on thr fertility of soil.
(*Alan Titmarsh offers this helpul information into preparing cotainers for plants that need to be well drained. “Place a handful of drainage material (bits of broken clay flowerpot, polystyrene packaging or clean pebbles or gravel) in the base. Fill the tub with good-quality multi-purpose compost, leaving a gap of an inch at the rim of the pot to allow for watering later. “)
